This course consists of 4 units. You need 3 for a full certificate and you can choose which 3 units you want to do. They can be done in any order but we recommend that you do Displaying Information Using ICT first.

The course is 23 weeks long, we encourage students to work at their own pace and provide extra support when necessary.

Unit 1 - Displaying Information Using ICT

• Switch a computer on & off using a password
• Open and close a document already created
• Become familiar with using the keyboard and mouse
• Enter text & numbers into a blank document
• Insert and move images/graphics on a document
• Align and format text into different styles and sizes
• Emphasis text as bold, italic & underline
• Save and print a document

Unit 2 - Using ICT to Find Information

• Search for information using the Internet and CD-ROMs
• Practice search techniques using software help
• Use a search engine and follow links on-line
• Print the search results
• Practice using CD-ROMs

Unit 3 - Communicating Information Using ICT

• Access an e-mail account using ID & password
• Create an e-mail message, inserting a subject, e-mail address and text in the appropriate places
• Send and print messages
• Reply to a message
• Locate and delete a message

Unit 4 - Producing Charts Using ICT

• Key in text and numbers using a spreadsheet
• Create pie charts that will show the portion of each item
• Create bar/column charts to compare individual items
• Create line charts to show changing data
• Add headings, labels and percentage values to the charts
• Save, print and close the charts

The course plan is as follows:

1. Work through manuals asking your tutor for support when required
2. Work through practice assignments that bring together everything you have completed within the manual
3. Sit final assessment based on what you have learnt, when you are ready

Throughout the course you should ask your tutor if you need help on understanding a particular task or instruction. When you are confident with each task, your tutor will set you up with the final assessment. Don't panic, the final assessment is no different from a practice assignment!
